Monroe couldn’t handle the talent or depth of the Oak Harbor High School swim team and was swamped by the Wildcats 122-39 at John Vanderzicht Pool Monday, Dec. 16.

Oak Harbor registered nine firsts and eight seconds in 11 events, all without one of its top swimmers, Caley Powers, who missed the meet while on a college visitation.

Cedric Cabigting (100 butterfly, 1:06.31; 100 backstroke, 1:09.25) and Joe Gorman (200 freestyle, 2:16.09; 400 free, 4:44.41) each own two individual events.

The pair also picked up two relay wins. They teamed up with Toren Wood and Dakota Powers to take the 200 medley relay (2:06.83). Cabigting, Powers, Micha Geist and Jake Nelson won the 200 free relay (1:55.54); and Gorman, Powers, Derek Volk and Ryan Cuajunco captured the 400 free relay (4:36.43).
Powers collected an individual first (100 breaststroke, 1:20.62) to go with his three relay wins, and Volk won the 50 free (28.54).

Michael Bukolt clocked the day’s best time in the 100 free (1:11.65) but couldn’t officially win the race because it was in a junior varsity heat.

Oak Harbor (3-0) goes to Lake Stevens (2-0) at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.
