Edmonds-Woodway won a 3-2 thriller over the visiting Oak Harbor High School volleyball team Thursday, Oct. 9, to move into first place and drop the Wildcats to fourth.

Two weeks ago, Oak Harbor coach Kerri Molitor said that the league was so balanced that no team would dominate and many would take turns beating each other.

That scenario is playing out. Midway through the conference season, no team is undefeated and six teams are within a half game of the league lead. Edmonds-Woodway, Arlington and Shorewood share first place with 5-1 records; three teams, including Oak Harbor, are a half game back are 5-2.

The Wildcats won the first game 25-21 at Edmonds-Woodway, then the Warriors took the next two, 25-19, 25-15.

Oak Harbor held on and forced a fifth set by taking the fourth 30-28.

Edmonds-Woodway cruised in the deciding game 15-4.

“We made more unforced errors,” Molitor said. “E-W was tough on defense.”

Claire Anderson recorded 21 kills, 15 digs and five aces for the Wildcats.

Hailee Blau added eight kills and four blocks, Natalie McVey had 26 assists and Hailey Beecher 18, Amelia Berner finished with seven kills and three blocks, and Priya Osborne and AnnaBelle Whitefoot each had 15 digs.

Oak Harbor (5-2, 5-4) plays at the Wenatchee Invitational Saturday, Oct. 11, then goes to Marysville-Pilchuck at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14.
