With a two-day total of 158, Oak Harbor junior Annie Leete won the girls 3A district golf tournament by 20 strokes Tuesday and Wednesday, May 14 and 15, at Marysville’s Cedarcrest Golf Course.

Leete and teammate Bree Roderos picked up spots in the state tournament with their district efforts.

It is not often a golfer can shoot a round 18 shots worse on the second day of a two-day tournament and win going away, but Leete pulled off the feat on the strength of a school-record 70 on day one.

Leete’s 88 on day two was also the tournament’s best round by two strokes, good for a 158-178 win over second-place Alisa Wilson of Glacier Peak.

Roderos shot a pair of 93s for a 186 to finish eighth; the top 16 qualified for state.

State is Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21 and 22, at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland.

Oak Harbor’s KC Winfield carded a 205 (99, 106), finished 21st and missed state by two shots.

Cassidy Gurich placed 26th (102-110, 212), Resego Mooki 27th (112-102, 214) and Katie Brockway 37th (109-120, 229).

Leete finished eighth at district as a freshman and third last year, qualifying for state both seasons. She did not compete at state as a freshman to attend her brother’s graduation from the Naval Academy. She placed 23rd last spring.
