Another stellar defensive effort carried the Coupeville High School soccer team to its third straight win — 2-1 over Lakewood at Mickey Clark Field Monday, April 9.

Coupeville’s Dylan Tack scored first in the 20th minute on “a great solo effort,” according to coach Paul Mendes.

Taking on three defenders, Tack finished with a chip shot over the Cougar keeper.

Nathan Lamb scored from 20 yards out in the 50th minute, then it was time for the Coupeville defense to do its thing.

Both teams created scoring opportunities throughout the match, and Lakewood picked up the pressure over the final 20 minutes. The Cougars’ goal came in the 60th minute, stopping a string of five halves and four overtimes of scoreless goal keeping by the Wolves’ Zach Forland.

Mendes said, “Time and time again, Lakewood created chances and our defenders made big plays to preserve the win. Our good defensive play has been the key to our wins the last three league games.”

Coupeville (3-3, 4-3) entertains Archbishop Murphy (7-0, 8-0) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 11.
