Coupeville wins once, Oak Harbor twice / Babe Ruth baseball

The Coupeville Babe Ruth baseball team scored six runs over the final two innings to defeat Oak Harbor 9-5 Thursday, June 1, at Clover Valley Park.

Oak Harbor bounced back to defeat visiting Mount Vernon twice, 6-1 and 9-5, Saturday, June 3.

Coupeville slugged 11 hits in its win over Oak Harbor, led by Gavin Knoblich. Knoblich got the late surge started with a triple in the sixth inning, and finished with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Drake Borden added two hits, including a double. George Dailey and Cody Roberts chipped in with a pair of singles, and Hawthorne Wolfe, Caleb Meyer and Ulrik Wells all singled.

Roberts picked up the pitching win, striking out six in six innings.

John Blankman and Kyto Morrow singled twice for Oak Harbor, and Cody Duchnowski, Kaito White and Will Rankin recorded base hits.

Oak Harbor scored five runs in the second inning on the way to the 6-1 win over Mount Vernon. Singles by Chandler Gisvold, Morrow, Duchnowski and White fueled the rally.

Duchnowski and Morrow finished with two hits, and Duchnowski added two RBI.

Morrow went the distance on the mound, pitching a four-hitter and striking out four.

Oak Harbor scored in every inning of the five-inning second game.

Morrow had two hits, two runs and two RBI; and Aidan Golden and Rankin each doubled. Duchnowski rapped a single and drove in two runs.

Jordan Ronning pitched the first four innings to collect the win.

Oak Harbor (6-7-1) goes to Anacortes at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, and the two teams meet at 6 p.m. in Oak Harbor Thursday.
