Coupeville, Oak Harbor get season started with jamboree / Track

Coupeville and Oak Harbor track athletes warmed up for the 2017 regular season by competing in the Island Jamboree Thursday, March 16, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
South Whidbey also took part; no team scores were kept.
Coupeville
Coupeville won eight events, led by Jacob Smith, who took the 100 (12.1) and 200 meters (23.7). Jacob Martin captured the long jump (20-07), and Mitchell Carroll took the triple jump (39-11).
The Coupeville girls received wins from Lindsey Roberts (100 hurdles, 16.55), Skyler Lawrence (shot put, 29-06.5), Allison Wenzel (javelin, 91-02) and Cassidy Moody (high jump, 4-04).
Many of the marks were among the state’s best among 1A Washington athletes during this spring’s first week of competition: Smith, second, 200; Martin, second, long jump; Carroll, third, triple jump; Danny Conlisk, ninth, 800 (2:19.54); Roberts, first, 100 hurdles; seventh, 200 (28.63); Wenzel, ninth, javelin; Lauren Bayne, 10th, javelin (90-06); Moody, seventh, high jump; and Maya Toomey-Stout, seventh, long jump (14-08).
Oak Harbor
The Wildcats collected 12 wins.
Boys earning blue ribbons were Mac Nuanez (400, 51.83), Michael Lym (800, 2:13.14), Dallas Riddle-Stevens (1,600, 5:07.63), Isaac Gomez (shot put, 42-09.75), Michael Fisken (discus, 140-03), Weston Whitefoot (javelin, 135-06) and Kyle Nickols (high jump, 5-08).
On the girls side, Oak Harbor received winning efforts from Jenna Cooley (400, 1:05.18), Megan Smith (800, 2:51.25), Alexis Smith (1,600, 5:49.03), Mikaela Cortez (triple jump, 27-10.5) and the 4×400 relay team (Brenna Rothman, Carolynn Wicker, Alexis Smith, Phoebe Keliikupakako, 4:59.3).
Oak Harbor posted a handful of state top-10 times among 3A athletes: Nuanez, third, 400; Ozell Jackson, ninth, 400 (53.59); Chris Brown, 10th, 400 (53.78); boys 4×400 relay (Lym, Jacob Hucko, Joesph Ralston, Miguel Guzman), 10th (4:19.89); Fisken, fourth, discus; Gomez, fifth, discus (130-06); Nickols, fourth, high jump; fifth, triple jump (39-06); Jackson, seventh, high jump (5-06); Jordan Washington, second, long jump (19-10.5); sixth, triple jump (39-04.5); Garren Guerrero, fourth, long jump (19-05); Jordan Bell, ninth, triple jump, 38-06; Cooley, fourth, 400; Kaitlyn Chelberg, second, 100 hurdles (16.73); Samantha Hines, eighth, 100 hurdles (17.47); eighth, javelin, 90-09; and girls 4×400 relay, 10th.
