Chum Run returns for 19th year

The 19th Annual Chum Run 5K begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at the South Whidbey Community Park.

The 19th Annual Chum Run 5K begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at the South Whidbey Community Park.

The run, which is also open for walkers, is a family event and includes other activities.

Among the activities is a free Fry Run for those 1-10 years old. Wild Man Cooley will provide musical entertainment.

The run is hosted by the South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District, and 50 percent of proceeds will go to the Healthy Island Youth Initiative (HIYI) for athletic scholarships to help kids in need be able to participate in sports and develop healthy and active lifestyles.

The cost is $25 by June 15 and $30 after.
