Cascade shuts out Oak Harbor

The undefeated Cascade Bruins proved why they are one of the top softball teams in the WesCo North Conference, handing Oak Harbor a 10-0, five inning loss Tuesday afternoon.

Entering the game undefeated with wins over Mariner and Lynnwood, the Wildcats couldn’t get anything going offensively against Cascade pitcher Brandi Klemm, who gave up just three hits and struck out nine in five innings on the mound.

“They have a good pitcher and some really good hitters on their team,” Oak Harbor coach Don Jenkins said. “When you have a good pitcher and some good hitters, it’s really tough to win.”

Holding a 3-0 lead after the

first inning, Cascade put the game out of reach early sending 13 batters to the plate in the top of the second inning scoring six additional runs.

Meanwhile, Klemm kept the Wildcat hitters off balance with a fastball that moved around in the strike zone and also a wicked change up.

Despite the lack of offense, Oak Harbor made some excellent fielding plays and turned double plays in the fourth and fifth innings.

“We’re going to be all right. It’s early in the season so we have plenty of time,” Jenkins said.

Jessica Kallander had the only extra base hit for thew Wildcats, smacking a double down the left field line in the third inning.

Oak Harbor (2-1) plays the next two games on the road at Arlington and Burlington-Edison.
