Pounding out 24 hits, the Oak Harbor Babe Ruth baseball team took two games, 7-3 and 12-6, from the host Sedro-Woolley 13s Saturday, June 8, at Murdoch Field.
Oak Harbor used a five-run fifth inning to complete two comebacks in the first game, then scored seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings to bury Sedro-Woolley in game two.
Down 2-0 heading into the third inning of the opener, Oak Harbor scored single runs in consecutive innings to even the score.
In the third, Trent Benson hit a two-out triple and scored on Dylan Bailey’s single. Chris Levy started the fourth with a single and was forced out on fielder’s choice by Paul Southerland. Southerland moved up on Austin Hauter’s base hit and scored on Dominic Jones’ single.
Sedro-Woolley regained the lead with a single run in the bottom of the fourth, then Oak Harbor took control for good with its five-run fifth.
A walk to Bailey; singles by Benson, Jordan Davenport, Dominic Stevens and Hauter; and a double by Levy produced the big inning.
Southerland, Cory Roberts and Bailey combined to pitch a four-hitter.
Levy went 3-for-4 and Hauter 2-for-3 to lead the 12-hit attack.
Oak Harbor never trailed in game two.
In the first, Oak Harbor scored when Levy walked, Stevens singled and Hauter put down a squeeze bunt.
Oak Harbor added three runs in the third. Singles by Jones, Levy and Stevens loaded the bases, and the first run scored on another excellent bunt by Hauter. Paul Spence singled in the other two.
In the top of the fourth, Oak Harbor made it 5-1 behind an RBI single by Stevens.
Sedro-Woolley cut the game to 5-3, then Oak Harbor scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth.
In the fifth, Spence and Benson singled, and then Southerland reached on an error, scoring one run. Roberts’ bunt scored the second run and an error off the bat of Robert Herring plated the third.
In the sixth, hits by Stevens, Spence and Herring mixed with a walk and two errors scored the four runs.
Benson, Hauter, Spence and Stevens shared pitching duties, yielding only five hits.
On offense, Stevens was 3-for-4, Spence 3-for-3 and Jones 2-for-3.
Oak Harbor hosts Anacortes at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11.
