Travis Aleen Kennedy, 82, was born Dec.14, 1920, in Craig, Colo., to Burks W. Traylor and Arte (Vaughn) Traylor. She died April 9, 2003 at her home in Oak Harbor.

Travis moved with her family to Shelton in 1936 and on to Camano Island in 1937. She graduated from Stanwood High School in 1939. She moved to Coupeville and worked for Doctor Chaffee. In 1940, she met Arthur Kennedy and they were married July 25, 1941.

The Kennedys lived in Oak Harbor, moving to Scenic Heights Road in 1942. They farmed and began a logging company in the late 1940s. In the 1960s they owned and managed the LK Apartments. This did not stop her from helping others. She was very active in Oak Harbor Church of the Nazarene. She served on the board, taught Sunday school, served as Sunday school director and director of the city-wide vacation Bible school.

Travis took great delight in helping others. Aside from her church, she was also a Cub Scout and 4-H leader. After Arthur’s passing in 1986, she volunteered at Help House and Planned Parenthood. Just last year, she took classes and volunteered at Pregnancy Care Clinic. She also enjoyed gardening.

Travis also delighted in traveling. After retiring, she and Arthur spent several years in Yuma, Arizona, visiting friends and family along the way. She greatly loved her children grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved God, her church, family and others.
