Stanley E. Nye, 81, died May 5, 2004, at Whidbey Island Manor, Oak Harbor. He was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Yakima to Roy and Maudena (Moore) Nye. Stan moved to Bayview, Idaho, near Lake Pend Orielle for a time and then on to Spokane, where he graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.
Stan served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to Beverly Kimball in Everett Dec. 28, 1945. In 1949, the Nye family moved to Oak Harbor. He worked for Whidbey Press for 18 years as a printer. He also worked for the Oak Harbor School District for a time, as a custodian. His final employment was with civil service, working in the main supply building.
Stan enjoyed traveling, especially their annual journey to Yuma, Ariz., each year for 20 years. He liked to fish, camp and build mobile home parks. He was a member of First Reformed Church of Oak Harbor, past commander of American Legion, George Morris Post No. 129 of Oak Harbor, the See Gulls Trailer Club of Seattle and Oak Harbor Senior Center, where he was an avid member of the Pinochle Club.
Mr. Nye is survived by his wife Beverly at the family home and one son Ron and wife Kathy of Oak Harbor and three grandchildren, Joshua Nye of Bothell and Jeffery and Jenna Nye of Oak Harbor. One brother David Nye of Benton City; one sister Beverly Pfaff and husband Jerry of Suisan, Calif., and one sister-in-law Darleen Gregory and husband Mervyn of San Antonio, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Two sisters, Betty Eakright and Pauline Chaney and his parents preceded him in death.
Graveside funeral services for Stanley Nye will be held Monday, May 10, at 1 p.m. at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at First Reformed Church of Oak Harbor at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jon Brown officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the services.
