Shirley Mackintosh

Shirley Mackintosh, 84, of Oak Harbor, passed away April 11, 2009, at Regency on Whidbey.

Mrs. Mackintosh was born in Seattle on March 3, 1925, to Kenneth and Dorothy (Fortier) Thorne. She was raised in Seattle, where she graduated from high school. She was a graduate of the University of Washington, with a bachelor of arts degree in English. Shirley married John Calvin Mackintosh on Dec. 27, 1948, in Seattle. The couple left Seattle in the early 1960s and moved to Los Angeles. In 1968, they resettled in Menlo Park, Calif. Shirley moved to Oak Harbor in 2002 where she was a resident of Regency on Whidbey Assisted Living. She was an ardent reader.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband John on Dec. 12, 1996, by son Bruce on October 31, 2006, and by son Ian on Sept. 9, 1974. She is survived by a daughter-in-law Karla Mackintosh of Coupeville; nephew Rollin Mackintosh and his wife Jennifer of Kennewick and by a brother-in-law Bruce Mackintosh and his wife Jeannie of Pasco.
