Shirley Dougher

Shirley Dougher died peacefully at home with her family at her bedside on Sept. 10, 2008. She was born July 13, 1932, in Vancouver, B.C. to Stanley R. and Kathleen D. Bowe.

Shirley was raised in New Westminister, B.C. and attended school there grades one through 12. It was soon after that she met her future husband, Robert Dougher, at Shirley’s best friend’s wedding. Shirley and Robert were married on May 9, 1953, and were happily married for over 51 years. Being a Navy wife, Shirley lived in Rhode Island, Texas, California, Wyoming and Japan, ending up in Washington state in 1977 where she lived until her passing. Shirley loved to crochet, knit, do different types of crafts and was an avid Bingo player, sometimes playing as many as four or five times a week, where she would eventually meet many of her friends. Shirley was an excellent homemaker as well as mother to her children.

Shirley is survived by one son, Bob G. Dougher and wife Danya of Irving, Texas, and three daughters, Joline Baker and husband Mark of North Bend, Wash., Karry Lynn Whitaker of Shoreline and Laurann Weidenbach and husband Mark of Oak Harbor; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2004.

A memorial service for Shirley is being arranged and notice of that service will be made in the near future. The family suggests that donations may be made to your favorite charity in Shirley’s name. Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
