Penny Denise (Persing) Roehrich

Funeral services for Penny D. Roehrich will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor. Cremation with private family burial will follow on Guemes Island at a later date.

Penny Denise (Persing) Roehrich, 42, died June 10, 2003 at Careage of Whidbey, Coupeville, after a brave 12-year battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 16, 1960, in Dell Rapids, S.D., to Myron and Patricia (Dunston) Persing.

Penny was married to Ronald S. Roehrich in Dickson, N.D., Oct. 22, 1983. They moved to Oak Harbor 17 years ago, making Whidbey Island their home. Denise was an active leader in the Girl Scouts, serving as a troop leader. She and her scouts were involved with the M Bar C Ranch and Uncle Buck’s Farm on South Whidbey. She was also a long time volunteer at Coupeville Elementary School.

Kayla says, “My mother was an outstanding person, she was there for me whenever I needed her there. She means a lot to all of us, and I know that no matter what was going on, she kept her head straight. I love her with all my heart and hope she’s doing well in the other world watching us.”

Her husband Ronald and one daughter Kayla at the family home, Oak Harbor, survive Penny. Her father and stepmother, Myron and Ricki Persing of Mount Vernon, and her mother Patricia Graham of Missouri also survive her. She is survived by one brother Dave (Catherine) Graham of Roseville, Calif., and three sisters: Kristi (Ryan) Canon of Marysville; Karla (Bob) Strand of Mount Vernon; Kim (Tom) Kelly of Anacortes and her grandmother Pat Dunston of Ephrata.

Penny is also survived by nieces and nephew, Jenna Graham of Roseville, Calif.; Lance Bradley of Anacortes; Summer Canon of Marysville; by her mother-in-law, Josie Roehrich and sister-in-law, Arlie (Bob) Whittenberg and brother-in-law Doug (Holly) Roehrich, all of Bismarck, N.D.; brother-in-law Jeff (Tammi) Roehrich of Fessender, N.D., sister-in-law Sandy (Walter) Larson of Mandan, N.D., and brother-in-law Jeff (Tammi) Roehrich of Fessender, N.D. She also leaves behind special friends, Nikki Hall, Lorraine Norris, Cathy Marley, René Kisch, Ellen Christensen, Corrine Gaddis and Debbie Walker.
