Marion Christine Houser

Marion Christine Houser, 84, passed into the arms of Jesus at 6:09 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Providence Medical Center, Everett.

“Chris” was born to Alvin and Bertha Techlenburg in Armour, S.D., Sept. 1, 1926. She earned her Registered Nursing degree and was an obstetrical nurse in Sioux City, Iowa, where she met her husband, William Glenn Houser, a Lutheran minister. They were married for 62 years.

Their lives took them to parishes in Ireton, Iowa, Spokane, Odessa, and Seattle. In Seattle, they spent many years at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Ballard. After that, they lived in Fort Wayne, Ind., where William was a professor at Concordia Theological Seminary. They retired to Coupeville on Whidbey Island.

She will be lovingly remembered as a compassionate pastor’s wife, a kind and generous mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, an avid gardener and ceramicist, and as a caring friend who always stayed in touch. She was an artist who created many ceramic dolls, winning awards for her work. She leaves behind her legacy of a multitude of kindnesses, thoughtful advice, a trove of arts and craft gifts, and most of all, daily living her Christian faith.

Chris is survived by her husband, William Houser; her sons, Stephen Houser (Buff Jones), Glenn Houser (Cathy) and Marc Houser (Tihut Teshome); a daughter, Candy Houser; her grandchildren, Michelle, Nick, Blake, Trace, Klemet, Rachel, Katrina, Eve, Becky, Matthew, Hannah, Abby, Beth, Abai and Mela; and two great grandchildren, Emma and Paul. She is also survived by her brother, Don Techlenburg, of Mitchell, S.D., and a sister, Mardell Haggard, of Merlin, Ore. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alvin Techlenburg Jr., and her son, William E. Houser.

The funeral will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, 590 North Oak Harbor Street, Oak Harbor, Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m., followed by a luncheon/reception at the church.

Arrangements are under the care of Solie Funeral Home in Everett.
