Marie Anderson

Marie Anderson died April 29, 2012, at Regency on Whidbey at the age of 96. She was born Dec. 1, 1915 in Hartford, Wash., an area now known as Lake Stevens. She attended a one room school house and graduated from Hartford High School.

Marie was hired as a clerical worker at Fort Lewis Army Base. While there she met a co-worker, Elmer “Andy” Anderson and in March 1958, they were married in Monroe. They continued working until retirement.

On a drive up Whidbey Island, Marie and Andy discovered property in Ledgewood Beach, purchased land and eventually built a home. After living there for 35 years, they elected to sell their home and settled into Regency in 2005. Andy preceded her in death in 2006.

Marie loved gardening and flowers, sewing, especially men’s neckties and needlework. She and Andy enjoyed ballroom dancing, square dancing and their daily walks at Fort Ebey.

Marie is survived by close friends Gregory and Linda Wasinger, of Oak Harbor, their children Brian and Erica Wasinger and grandchildren Reese and Rylee, all of Oak Harbor and John and Lisa Johnson and grandchildren Cooper and Ellie of Pullman, Dennis and Colleen Webster of Show Low, Ariz., Larry and Debbie Petersen of Hillsboro, Ore., and one niece, Linda Rhoads of Spokane. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

A Celebration of Life was held at Regency on Whidbey on Thursday, May 3. Graveside services followed at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville.
