Johnathan Lee Carlson

Jonathan Lee Carlson died July 12, 2002 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Oak Harbor.

John was born at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, S.D., Feb. 12, 1980. He grew up on a farm in the community of Beresford, S.D. He graduated from Beresford High School in 1998 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was a member of the VQ-1 squadron, World Watchers. He had achieved the rank of second class petty officer (E-5). John married his beloved Shannon, with whom he shared everything, June 30, 2000. John developed his love for all things mechanical, especially motorcycles, at an early age. John was stationed at Whidbey Island, and had been deployed to Ecuador, Japan, Puerto Rico and Maryland.

John is survived by his wife Shannon; his father Gary Carlson of Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; his mother Sandra King and step-father Thomas King of Vermillion, S.D.; his brother Jeremy and sister-in-law Kris Carlson of Beresford, S.D.; his brother Joshua Carlson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; his sister Jordyn Carlson of Vermillion, S.D.; his step-sister Chelsea King of Vermillion, S.D.; his mother- and father-in-law, Carol and Doug Nygaard II, brothers-in-law Josh and Jon, and sister-in-law Megan, all of Beresford, S.D.; grandparents Roscoe and Lois Carlson of Beresford, S.D., and Eldon and Theresa Frederickson of Las Cruces, N. M., and many, many relatives and dear friends.

John will be remembered forever for his big heart, his wonderful smile, his unconditional love and care for family and friends, and his passion for motorcycles. His presence will be missed by those who knew and will always love him.

Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford, S.D., on Saturday, July 20 at 2 p.m., with visitation at the church from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, and prayer service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday July 19, 2002.
