Janet was born Dec. 11, 1947 in Seattle, the daughter of Eugenia Hoertkorn and the late Walter Hoertkorn. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1966 and after college became a Registered Nurse. Janet worked in the operating room and as an RN for 32 years before retiring to Texas. She was a part of the first open-heart surgeries to ever be conducted. Janet married Jim Faris in 1967, and the two have been married for 44 years.

Janet was a member of various genealogy societies, nursing associations, Mended Hearts, Eastern Star, and was honored with an induction into the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid genealogist, pianist, gardener and quilter, but most importantly she had a heart of gold, thought of others above herself, and would do anything for those she loved. She was the wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend that others only aspire to be. Her eyes sparkled when she was around her grandkids. They were her joy and inspiration.

Janet is survived by her husband, Jim Faris, her daughter Leslie Faris and husband David Simmons, her son Tom Faris and wife Annie Faris, and her six grandchildren, Jamison Simmons, Jorrin Simmons, Jensen Simmons, Katie Faris, Grant Faris and Grady Faris. Survivors also include her mother, Eugenia Hoertkorn, her brother, Tom Hoertkorn, and her sister, Joan Barkley.
