Gerald ‘Jerry’ Wirth

Gerald (Jerry) Wirth passed away May 10, 2010, at the age of 78.

Jerry was a 1949 graduate of Toronto High School and played on THS’s first undefeated football team. After graduation he joined the USMC and served his country in the Korean conflict with the 1st Marine Division.

Jerry enjoyed 34 years of service with Ohio Bell Telephone / Ameritech. For the next 20 years Jerry developed a passion for woodworking, often donating his efforts to church, family and friends. Most recently Jerry enjoyed being a part of his son’s farm in Oak Harbor.

Jerry was a friend to many and loved by all who knew him, offering his time and talents to the benefit of his community, church, friends and family.

Jerry always valued hard work in himself and others.

He was a man of action and few words. The example of a life well lived was exemplified in his service to his country, church, community, friends and his family. The void he leaves will be felt by his many friends and loving family.

His memberships included First United Methodist Church; he was a 50-year member in Toronto Lodge No. 583 F&AM and Royal Arch Masons, Toronto Chapter 215 OES and Tulip Chapter 26 OES of Coupeville; the Toronto High School Alumni Assoc. and the Telephone Pioneers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel Wirth, and granddaughter Sarah Wirth.

Survivors included his wife of 57-years, Anna Lea Wirth; sons Dr. Douglas (Sherry) Wirth and Gregory (Cathy) Wirth; grandsons Derek, Jared and Grant; and sister, Elizabeth (Richard) Hughes.
