Edith Pyle-Olson

Edith Pyle-Olson died at Whidbey General Hospital on Sunday, Feb. 28, following a brief illness. She was a loving and adored wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Edith was born Nov. 29, 1914, in New York City. Edith moved to Union, N.J., when she was very young and graduated from Union High School in 1932. After high school, Edith attended finishing school in Bermuda. Edith married Laurence Charles Pyle on June 28, 1935. Laurence attended graduate school in Princeton. Edith and Laurence both worked for Prudential Life Insurance Co. in Newark, N.J. They had a daughter, Judith Ann, and a son David Laurence.

Edith, Laurence, Judith and David moved to Los Angeles in 1948 to set up the new Prudential home office. The family lived in the San Fernando Vally until Laurence died in 1965. Edith met and married Wilfred Olson in 1966. Edith and Wilfred moved to Davis in 1972 to be closer to her children. Edith enjoyed traveling, reading, knitting and various crafts. She was a member of Pole Line Bapist Church of Davis and volunteered for a short time as a “Pink Lady” (Auxiliary) at Sutter Davis Hospital. Wilfred died in 1995. Edith continued to live in Davis until 2005 when she moved to Oak Harbor to be closer to her daughter.

Edith’s death came exactly 45 years to the day after her first husband, Laurence Pyle.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann Barnum and her husband Donovan of Oak Harbor, and her son, David Laurence Pyle and his wife Susan of Walnut Creek, as well as six granddaughters, Jennifer Pyle of Napa; Kennon Fleischmann of Crocket; Lucinda Childress of Davis; Bonnie James of Oak Harbor; Rebecca Johnson of Bloomington, Ind.; and Tanya Krone of Tooele, Utah. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren plus one great-grandchild on the way.

Edith will by very missed by her family and many friends. There will be a reception for friends and family in the dining room at Regency between 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday, March 20.
