Edith Anne Leonard

Edith Anne Leonard (nee Pearce), of Coupeville, passed away Feb. 23, 2011, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Edith was born May 23, 1930, in Ogden, Utah. After graduation from Oregon State University and marriage to her husband Albert, she raised five children, Mary (Andrew Hallman), John (Pat), Brian, David and Thomas (Molly); as well as two brothers- in-law, Mike and Dan McCluskey.

Moving many places through her husband’s career with the U.S. Interior Department, Edith made homes in Montana, Michigan, Virginia, Colorado and Oregon before retiring to Whidbey Island in 1979. A passionate watercolor artist, she took great joy in her painting and friendships made in the Greenbank Artists group. Edith’s life’s work was raising her children and she felt great joy from their lives, families and accomplishments.

Edith is survived by her two loving sisters, Barbara (Al Schroeder) and Elaine (Blaine Watkins), five children and eight grandchildren. Se was preceded in death by her brother Sidney Pearce.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at the San de Fuca Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.
