Donna Pauline Williams

Donna Pauline Williams beloved wife and loving gracious mother was called home to our Lord and Savior, Sunday, July 1, 2007.

Donna was born in La Cross, Wis., in 1921. She spent her youthful days in Bloomington, Texas, thus becoming her husband’s “yellow rose.” Mom finished grade school in Texas and furthered her education by graduating from Northern Arizona College at Flagstaff.

After graduation she promptly packed her bags to return to Texas to begin her teaching career. Here is where she met and married her sailor – the love of her lifetime for 62 years.

In a short time, the Navy had her packing-up and moving-on every couple of years. Mom treated each of these moves as a new adventure. It was a great way to see new places and meet new people. Mom’s last military transfer brought her to Oak Harbor. Here she continued with her teaching career of 30 years. We’re sure she will be best remembered for instilling an appreciation for the importance of our English language!

After retiring, Mom and Dad hit the road whenever they could. They visited places they had been many years before, and seeking out new destination to explore. When at home, one would always find her in the garden; passionately creating beauty. Being included on the Island County Garden tour was public recognition of her gardening achievements.

Gone before her was her husband Herbert “Willie” Williams of Joplin, Mo., her sisters, Jesse, Barbara and brother Pat Taylor. Donna leaves behind her four children, Sandy and her spouse Vince McGuire of Bothell, Wash., Kent of Oak Harbor, James of Cairo, Egypt, and Cindy with spouse Bert Welch of Palmer, Ala. Grand children by Sandy include Laura, Lisa and Katie, and great granddaughters Mandy and Gracie. Grand children by Cindy include, Willie and Chantel, and great grandsons Ryan and Tyler.

Until we meet again, her children will be missing her. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 12, 2007, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a graveside service at Maple Leaf Cemetery at 3 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007, with The Rev. C. Paul Orritt of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church of Oak Harbor officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
