Donald L. Toczek

Donald Lee Toczek died suddenly at his home in Oak Harbor on Nov. 29, 2013 at the age of 83. He was born Oct. 20, 1930 in Phillip, S.D. to Emil and Alice Toczek.

Don was married to Doris Abelson on June 29, 1955 in Yankton, S.D. Don served in the U.S. Army for a time and then transferred to the U.S. Air Force. He left active duty, but remained in the reserves, retiring in 1990.

Don and Doris moved to Oak Harbor in 1966, when he was hired at NAS Whidbey Island as a utility worker. Twenty years later, Don retired. Following retirement, Don worked as a security officer for several locations, but his main job was as security at the Swinomish Casino.

Don enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an active member of the North Whidbey Sportsman Club, a member of the NRA and loved working with his tractor. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church of Oak Harbor.

Don is survived by his wife, Doris, and three children and their spouses: Debby Nydam and Jerry, of Winslow, Ariz.; David Toczek, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Douglas Toczek and Tammy, of Graham, Wash. and one brother Tony Toczek, of Yankton, S.D.

Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, at Concordia Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Hanson officiating.
