Dessie Jeannette Ely

Dessie Jeannette Ely, 59, 26-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Sonshine House in Coupeville on Saturday, March 6, 2004, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Ely was born in Whitehouse, Florida, on February 10, 1945, to Ralph C. Nolan and Florrie (Smith) Nolan, the youngest of nine children. She was married to Lawrence Vernon “Doan” Ely. Jeannette was a caregiver/nursing assistant for years in private health care. She enjoyed cooking, flower arranging, gambling, fishing, clamming, crabbing and gardening. She was also active as a supporter of Help House.

Jeannette is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Strom and husband Dean of Kennewick; one sister, Alice Marie Brogi and husband Bob of Oak Harbor; also, four brothers, Carl, Clarence and Bill Nolan, all of Florida and Harold Nolan of Oak Harbor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doan Ely, on July 5, 1994.

A memorial service will be at Burley Funeral Chapel, Friday, March 12, 2004, at 11 a.m., Rev. Fred Renfroe, CHC, USN (Ret.) officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
