Beverly Louise Donner

Beverly Louise Donner, 79, of Oak Harbor, longtime former Spokane resident, died at Whidbey Island Manor July 19, 2002.

Mrs. Donner was born in Spokane Nov. 29, 1922, to Frederick Byers and Theresa (Witte) Byers. She was raised in Spokane where she attended Holmes Elementary School, Havermale Junior High School and North Central High School, from which she graduated in 1940. She attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney, and received her B.A. degree in education in 1943. She taught fourth Grade at Franklin School, and then took a 10-year leave of absence from her career to start a family.

On June 24, 1944, Beverly married William Erwin Lee Donner. She returned later to teach fourth and fifth grades at several Spokane schools. She retired in 1978 after 25 years of teaching.

She joined her husband Bill in traveling to Spain and the Canary Islands for three months. They spent three winters in Hawaii and then 16 winters in Desert Hot Springs, Calif. They built a home in Anacortes in 1976-77 and moved there in 1978. They moved to Oak Harbor in October 1999.

Beverly loved golf, bridge, sewing, swimming and fishing. She was a member of the Loyalty Chapter of the Eastern Star, P.E.O. Spokane Chapter, was Worthy Advisor to the Rainbow in Spokane, a member of the Washington State Retired Teachers Association and the Alumni Association of Eastern Washington University.

She is survived by her husband, William Erwin Lee Donner of Oak Harbor; four children, Bruce Donner of Mount Vernon, Curtis Donner and wife Lori of Spokane, Ross Donner of Sacramento, Calif., and Melanie Donner of Lakeland Village in Medical Lake; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Maribeth Donner, and one brother, William Byers.

In keeping with her wishes, no service will be held. Private inurnment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements and cremation under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
