Allen Wayne Derting

Allen “Wayne” Derting, 69, of Oak Harbor, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at Careage of Whidbey in Coupeville He was born in Pasco and raised in Kennewick. Wayne was the son of Paul and Ruby (Bones) Derting. He married Emma Lingscheit in 1959 and they raised four children.

The family moved to Anacortes in 1976 where Wayne was employed as the department head of the Island Hospital radiology department for 26 years, before his retirement. Wayne served the Anacortes community by driving ambulance for approximately five years, x-raying candy at Halloween and working with the Red Cross. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Oak Harbor where he taught lesson studies and the Pathfinder Club to the kids. Wayne enjoyed the outdoors, photography and his family.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Emma; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Colleen Derting of Oak Harbor, and Dan and Denise Derting of Anacortes; daughters and son-in-law, Peggy and Melvin Larsen of Anacortes and Cindy Derting of Oak Harbor; grandchildren, Brad Derting of Anacortes, Paul Derting of Oak Harbor, Chris Rivera of Anacortes and James Rivera of Burlington; and brothers, George Derting of Pasco and Clyde Derting.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Oak Harbor. Private family interment will be at Fernhill Cemetery in Anacortes.
