Alida T. Embleton

Alida T. Embleton, 95, loving sister and mother, went on her last journey to her heavenly father on March 22, 2009, with family by her side.

Alida was born on West Beach on Whidbey Island, Sept. 16, 1913, to her parents Gerard and Adriana Tenbrink. She graduated from high school and met Thomas Embleton while he was working for the CCC; they married and had four children together. Alida is preceded in death by her husband Thomas as well as her daughter Francine Alida Attwell.

Alida was a seamstress making many of her children’s clothing as well as sewing for countless people in her home for 60 years. She loved to crochet and made her loved ones afghans as well as doll blankets for Samaritans Purse Xmas Child Shoe boxes. Alida worked in retail sales, was church deacon, AGAPE member and a toastmistress. She enjoyed singing and was in the choir at the Church on the Rock, a Baptist church. She kept up on her love of foreign languages, which included Spanish, German and her native tongue Dutch. Alida was an animal lover and owned many dogs and cats. She loved to travel and was able to do so at a younger age with family and friends. Her hands were never idle in helping and visiting the sick.

Her sister Betty and her husband Dick Osterholt, her son Thomas Embleton Jr. and his wife Judy, daughter Sylvesta and her husband Bud Weber, and daughter Sharon Embleton survive Alida, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. All who met Alida loved her and she will be missed immensely.

Arrangements have been entrusted unto the care and direction of Affordable Burial & Cremation Services, LLC of Mount Vernon. Visitation for Alida will be held Wednesday, March 25, at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The family will then have a private graveside service. A celebration of Alida’s life is being planned and will be announced at a later date. Cards of condolence may be mailed to the family in care of the Funeral home.
