Wrestling: 3 Oak Harbor wrestlers still alive in state meet

Three of Oak Harbor’s five entries in the state 3A wrestling meet won two of three matches Friday, Feb. 18, in the preliminary rounds and can finish as high as third at the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome.

The state tournament concludes today with matches beginning at 10 a.m.

Corey Trimbur (103 pounds) opened the tournament with a fall (2:23), then lost 13-6 before recording another pin (:49).

Brandon Stratton (145) lost 13-9 in the first round and then bounced back with a pair of wins (fall, 4:41; 7-4).

Cody Fakkema (119) was eliminated in three matches. He lost 6-3, won 5-0 and lost 4-2.

On the girls’ side, Jennifer Fremd (140) was edged 7-5 in round one, then recorded two falls (4:17, 2:51).

Teammate Bailey Martinez (140) lost in the first round (fall, 3:48), won by a pin in the second (2:19), and then was eliminated in the third (fall, 4:05).
