A strong effort in doubles wasn’t enough as the Coupeville High School tennis team lost 4-3 in its season opener at Port Angeles Tuesday, Sept. 6.

The Wolves won three of the four doubles matches but dropped all three of the singles contests.

Joseph Wedekind and John McLarin took first doubles 6-3, 6-4; Joey Lippo and William Nelson rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win in second doubles; and Jimmy Myers and Grey Rische captured third doubles 6-3, 6-1.

Mason Grove and Tiger Johnson fell 6-4, 6-1 in fourth doubles.

Nick Etzell (3-6, 7-6[8-6], 6-0), Aiden Crimmins (6-1, 6-2) and Nick Blalock (6-0, 6-1) lost in singles.

The Wolves (0-1) play at home for the first time this fall when they host Sequim (0-0) at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12.
