Two people were hospitalized Nov. 4 when their mobile home in Oak Harbor was gutted by a fire.
At approximately 3:20 p.m., firefighters received a call that a single-wide mobile home was ablaze in Parkwood Manor, located off Crosby Road in Oak Harbor.
“It was pretty well involved,” said Ray Merrill, battalion chief of the Oak Harbor Fire Department, describing the scene when firefighters arrived. Firefighters from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue also assisted in extinguishing the blaze.
Merrill said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. It appears the fire started in one of the bedrooms before it spread through the rest of the home.
Two women were inside the single-wide when the fire ignited. They were transported to Whidbey General Hospital because of the smoke they inhaled.
Merrill said firefighters had the fire under control within 10 to 15 minutes after arriving.
The trailer was still standing after firefighters finished, however the interior was burned and its windows were eventually boarded up and red tape cordoned off the area.
“For all practical purposes, it was destroyed,” Merrill said.
