Duffers and local non-profits have a big weekend coming up in September.

Duffers and local non-profits have a big weekend coming up in September. Saturday, Sept. 6, and Monday, Sept. 8, golf tournaments benefitting Child Abuse Prevention Foundation and Senior Services of Island County take good walks on island courses.

Child Abuse Prevention Foundation’s annual golf tournament is set for Sautrday, Sept. 6, at Useless Bay Country Club. A hole-in-one on the right golf hole will net the winner $20,000. A new contest will give one golfer the chance to putt 50 feet for a $10,000 prize. The largest annual fundraisr for CAPF, Tournament for Children, provides funding for programs that prevent child abuse, support healthy families, and educate parents and the community about issues regarding children throughout the year. In the current economic downturn more families are struggling, and at the same time historic funding sources such as endowed foundations are not able to give as much as in the past. CAPF needs the help of the community to continue to fund programs such as In A Pinch and Harbor Haven crisis nurseries. Donors provide gifts and prizes along with auction items. Entry fee is $115 and includes full lunch, contests, scramble format play in multiple divisions, entertainment , awards dinner and silent auction. Call 678-1535 .

Monday, Sept. 8, is Whidbey Island Bank’s Golf Classic benefiting Senior Services of Island County at Holmes Harbor Golf Club. Open to players of all ages and abilities, this tournament has a scramble format and a 1 p.m. shotgun start and includes an awards dinner. Preceding the tournament will be chances to hone golfing skills with a clinic on alignment, taught by Rich Kirk, Holmes Harbor Club manager and the putting green will be available for warm up shots. Proceeds support Senior Services which is responsive to the needs of older individuals and people who are disabled within Island County. For more information or to register, call Senior Services at 678-3373.
