The Center offers free books and puzles

The Center in Oak Harbor is distributing free books and puzzles to community members.

The books and puzzles are available on tables outside of the Center’s main entrance on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Center, formerly the senior center, is following health guidelines provided by the Oak Harbor Fire Department to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Oak Harbor Senior Services Administrator Liz Lange said.

Oak Harbor Fire Chief Ray Merrill said he advised The Center’s staff members to sanitize before they put out the books and puzzles, and ensure people practice social distancing.

The Center is asking individuals who would like to receive books or puzzles to use provided hand sanitizer before and after browsing, and to remain in their cars if someone else is at the table.

The Center is not asking for book and puzzle donations and the Center is not asking for people to return items they take.

“We don’t have staff here all day,” Lange said. “There’s not a way to circulate the books and puzzles appropriately.”

Lange said she is not worried about running out of materials to distribute.

“We have plenty in here so we’ll keep putting them out,” Lange said. “We know as soon as we re-open, the shelves will be restocked.”
