Sophomore Makana Stone added her name, again, to the  Coupeville High School track record book with a swift run at King’s Thursday, April 17.

Running through cold, wet weather, Stone covered the 400 meters in 60.27 seconds. The mark broke Amy Mouw’s record of 60.44 set in 2003.

Stone’s time is the second fastest among Washington 1A runners this spring.

Stone also holds the school 200 record (26.74) and is part of three record relay teams.

At King’s, Stone also won the 200 (27.47). Coupeville picked up other wins from Erin Rosenkranz (3,200, 13:53.34) and Brandon Kelley (300 hurdles, 45.26).

In team scoring, the host Knights won both meets. They scored 107 points in the boys meet, five more than Lakewood. South Whidbey finished with 33 and Coupeville 22.

In the girls meet, King’s finished with 120 points, Lakewood 69, South Whidbey 56 and Coupeville 21.

The Wolves received second place efforts from Lathom Kelley (400, 53.3) and Nick Streubel (shot put, 45-02.5).

Stone’s time in the 400 isn’t the only Coupeville mark among state leaders this spring.

She also holds the eighth-best 200 time (27.22) and teamed with Marisa Etzell, Sylvia Hurlburt and Lauren Grove to clock the sixth-best 4×200 time (1:51:58) and ninth-best 4×100 time (53.21).

Streubel is 14th in the shot put (45-09.5) and 17th in the discus (129) and Lathom Kelley is 19th in the 200 (23.85).
