Russian roulette is not for pets

Published 7:00 am Saturday, February 11, 2006

I write this as a plea to people who allow their dogs to roam free, more specifically to those who have car chasing dogs.

Last week I was almost in a car accident due to an unleashed dog who has a history of chasing cars. I know this because I travel this route regularly and as I haven’t seen this particular dog chasing my vehicle each time I pass, I figured the owner finally had it under control. I was mistaken as the dog raced out into the road and practically attacked the front end of the car I was driving. Which required me to brake and swerve drastically in order to avoid hitting it.

Allowing this dog to run free is nothing short of animal neglect; not to mention the leash laws you are blatantly ignoring while endangering your dog. Yes, you read correctly. You might as well be playing Russian roulette with your pet. When an animal you own is endangering themselves it is your responsibility to protect them. Like children, pets need our guidance and care, including keeping them from danger. For your dog’s safety restrain it, please.
