A 24-year-old Oak Harbor woman is accused of speeding away after running over a woman’s leg in an SUV last December, court documents say.

Prosecutors charged Christine Love in Island County Superior Court May 18 with hit and run with an injury.

According to a report by Officer Jennifer Rutledge with the Oak Harbor Police, the 28-year-old victim reported that Love ran her over at a trailer park on NW Crosby Avenue on the evening of Dec. 28.

Love was driving a Ford SUV and dropped off a couple of people at the park. She and the alleged victim got into a verbal argument.

The woman claimed that Love intentionally hit her with the car, knocking her down and driving over her left leg, the officer wrote. The alleged victim said Love then took off at a high rate of speed, the report states.

Rutledge wrote that Love gave her conflicting accounts of what happened, but told her it was an accident. Love initially said that a friend at the scene told her to leave after the accident, so she did, the report says.

The woman went to the hospital for treatment. Her leg was bruised and the doctor told her stay off the leg for several days, the report says.
