Oak Harbor: Maybe we should trash city hall

Today I received an insert in my utility bill.

Today I received an insert in my utility bill. The insert was titled “Keeping our city clean.” I am sure many of my neighbors also received the same insert with their billing.

Over the last two or possibly three weeks, I had noticed that many of my neighbors’ containers had not been picked up. I had not been so unfortunate. I heard somewhere that containers were not being picked up if the lid to the container was not securely closed. I thought that there was something wrong here. What could be the reasoning behind this idea and from where could such an outrageous idea have come?

I had read nothing in the newspaper that I could recall regarding such a draconian ordinance, nor had I received anything in writing concerning one.

Well this has nothing to do with keeping the city clean (unpicked up garbage breeds vermin and disease) and everything to do with money. Yes, you guessed it — yet another rate increase, and an under-handed way of gouging all of us fore more.

This code (15.04) is the Gestapo in action. I don’t know who voted for this ridiculous code but I am going to find out. I will remember when election time rolls around and I suggest you do the same.

When are these people going to get it? We don’t work for them, they work for us, and it costs more and more and we get less and less. May be it’s time for a citizen revolt.

How would City Hall look with everyone’s garbage deposited at its front door? Perhaps the next time your container is not emptied you might like to find out. Also remember, you are paying for a service you did not receive.
