North Whidbey Aquatic Club finishes second at Toppenish invitational

North Whidbey Aquatic Club swimmers scored 1,005 points to clinch second place in the team competition at the 13th Annual Wine Country Invitational Swim Meet in Toppenish June 11-13.

North Whidbey Aquatic Club swimmers scored 1,005 points to clinch second place in the team competition at the 13th Annual Wine Country Invitational Swim Meet in Toppenish June 11-13.

The meet was won by King Aquatic Club of Federal Way with 1,981 points; the host Yakima Athletic Club took third with 555. Eight teams competed.

NWAC was led by high-point winners Kelly Huffer (girls 9-10), Laura Rosen (girls 13-14) and Tori Nickerson (girls 15-and-older), each of whom won multiple individual events.

Other event winners included Emily Huffer, Jacob Jepsen, Josh Jepsen, Marissa Morris and Ethan Tack.

Earning new Pacific Northwest Swimming (PNS) Championships qualifying standards were Morris in the girls 11-12 100 fly (1:27.34) and Emily Schroeder in the girls 13-14 200 breast (3:07.44).

Finishing the meet with 100 percent individual and relay PR’s were Emily Huffer, Morris, Ella Schroeder, Emily Schroeder, Hannah Schroeder, Lucas Tack and Olivia Tungate.

Morris won the NWAC Swimmer of the Meet award by racing to 11 individual and two relay best times, improving by an average of two seconds per 100 meters swum, winning the girls 11-12 200 back (2:53.62) and qualifying for July’s PNS Champs in the 100 fly.

NWAC next competes at the West Invitational Swim Meet June 25-27 in Federal Way, where it will field a team of 24.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club (NWAC) is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college. Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.
