Island County, Press release: Please be advised that a quorum of the Board of Commissioners will not be attending a community meeting in Oak Harbor Thursday evening concerning a proposed law and justice tax.

As a result, the special session notice that was announced yesterday has been cancelled.  The community meeting will occur as scheduled, however, beginning at 7 p.m. at the fire station on Heller Road, 2720 SW Heller Road.

The meeting will be hosted by Island County Sheriff Mark Brown and Prosecutor Greg Banks on behalf of the Law and Justice Council. The advisory group adopted a resolution recently urging the commissioners to seek voter approval for a $2.6 million law and justice levy on the November ballot.

The board has not approved the proposal but has authorized a series of community meetings to get public feedback.
