City surveys youth services

According to the 2000 Census, 25 percent of Oak Harbor’s population is 18 years of age and under.

In an effort to improve youth services, the city is conducting a survey that will aid in the development of future activities and programs for youth.

The city commissioned Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County to conduct the community-wide survey and would like all adults to contribute their impression of the current quality of youth services.

The survey was distributed in utility bills. Please mail or drop off the completed survey at City Hall, 865 SE Barrington Dr., Oak Harbor. You may also access the survey at www.oakharbor.org, by clicking on “Youth Services Survey.”

Greenbank kicks off campaign

Somebody donated $15,000 to the Greenbank Farm with one string attached: They have to double that amount in order to receive the money.

The Greenbank Farm Management Group received the anonymous donation as officials are getting ready to kick off its annual donation drive. They have until the end of the year to match the donation.

Officials are sending out mailers to residents in hopes of gathering between $30,000 and $50,000 worth of donations including the anonymous gift.

Tom Baenen, president of the Greenbank Farm Management Group, said it’s not possible to cover the cost of farm operations without the help of donors, volunteers and contributors.

Last year, the campaign kickoff raised approximately $17,000.

Mailers will be sent to people Oct. 15. Donate either through the mail or online at www.greenbankfarm.com.
