Behind a revised lineup, the Coupeville High School tennis team toppled visiting Friday Harbor 3-2 Wednesday, April 17.

Coupeville coach Ken Stange revamped his lineup, getting his team ready for district. Amanda d’Almeida, No. 1 singles up to this point, joined Iris Ryckaert in No. 1 doubles. Doubles play is nothing new for d’Almeida who is a three-time district doubles champ.

The pair won 6-0, 6-2.

Stange said the duo “played well” and “they were able to work on certain elements of their doubles strategy in the second set.”

He added, “Hopefully, they will be able to make a run at districts and advance to the next level.”

Allie Hanigan moved up to No. 1 singles from the No. 2 slot, and doubles player Emily Gallahar took over at No. 2. Neither had problems against the Wolverines as each won 6-0, 6-1.

Stange said, “The three matches we won were very convincing. I was a bit surprised by the two matches we lost. The Friday Harbor girls played well, but something was amiss in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Both teams had their moments but couldn’t find a way over the hump, so to speak.”

In second doubles, Holly Craggs and Julia Myers lost 6-4, 6-0; and in third doubles McKenzie Bailey and Sydney Autio fell 6-3, 6-3.

Coupeville (6-3) hosts Lakewood at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23.
