The Music Committee of the Whidbey Island Arts Council seeks submission for “Whidbey Celebrates,” a compilation CD of the music of local Whidbey Island musicians to market and distribute as a fundraiser for the Whidbey Island Arts Council. This is intended to be the first in a series of musical releases.

The Whidbey Island Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization that acts as a catalyst for artistic growth and a resource to support and encourage the artistic community, its artists, and its patrons; further art education, including community art activities and a partnership with school-based art programs; and to foster multicultural events. The Music Committee provides and supports local musicians, venues, services and music education under the Whidbey Island Arts Council.

The Music Committee is forming a Committee of Peers to review and select 12 to 16 songs for publication on the CD sold by local retailers. All local musicians are eligible to submit up to three pieces of finished professionally engineered original music. Selection shall be based upon the following criteria: Originality, artistry, quality of sound engineering and ability to perform the piece live.

Artists who are unable to produce a CD at home that meets “mastering specifications” are encouraged to record their music at any of a variety of local recording studios. Artists are asked to submit a pre-mastered mix, or original songs from completed CDs. Artists who must record in a studio are advised to schedule their recording sessions as soon as possible. The peer committee shall be reviewing music submissions through Sept. 1, and shall make final selections by Sept. 15.

Selected artists must sign a release of rights to WIAC for one-time use on the Whidbey Celebrates CD. This release of rights for one-time use does not prevent any artist from releasing the same song on another CD or any other use the artists desires.
