A 46-year-old Oak Harbor man became upset on Christmas when an expected guest didn’t visit, then choked his wife and broke a flat-screen TV, according to a report by Oak Harbor police.

Prosecutors charged Ronald Keller in Island County Superior Court Dec. 29 with second-degree assault, a domestic violence charge.

According to the police report, a couple of officers responded to a 911 report from a trailer park on Christmas. A woman reported that her husband, Keller, choked her and threw her to the ground, the report states.

The woman said Keller then pushed the TV onto the floor, breaking it, and started “destroying the house,” the officer wrote.

Keller told an officer that he got angry because an expected guest hadn’t arrived, which sparked a verbal argument. But he said his wife threw a telephone, which hit the TV, and that he did not assault her.

If convicted of the charge against him, Keller could face from three to nine months in jail under the standard sentencing range.
