A Whatcom County man who may have been involved in a suspicious death is behind bars after attempting to elude police Tuesday between Coupeville and Langley.

The Island County Sheriff’s Office received a request from Skagit County that day to attempt to locate a stolen Black Ford F-150.

Police learned that the driver was possibly armed with one or more firearms and that he may have been involved in a suspicious death in Whatcom County, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Initial reports stated the suspect, Joshua Adams, a 41-year-old Whatcom County resident, left his vehicle at a gas station in Skagit County where he had stolen the black Ford F-150.

An Island County deputy located the black Ford truck driving south on Highway 20 near Coupeville.

The vehicle attempted to elude police and was eventually stopped near Maxwelton Road and State Highway 525 with the assistance of the Washington State Patrol and the Langley Police Department.

Adams was taken into custody and booked into Island County Jail for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He will be arraigned at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday in Island County Superior Court on local charges.

The Island County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the sheriff’s offices in Whatcom and Skagit counties with any additional charges they may have against Adams.
