The Port of Coupeville failed in its latest attempt to sell a boat that has been moored at the wharf since October.

Port officials recently took the 40-foot SeaRay to Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes for an auction. Unfortunately, nobody was willing to make the $19,500 minimum bid for the boat.

Port Executive Director Jim Patton said six people examined the vessel and agreed it was in good shape. However, the rising price of gasoline scared them away.

The port claimed the 40-foot SeaRay in March after its owner wasn’t able to pay months worth of moorage fees that have accrued since arriving at the wharf last fall.

The port recently accepted bids for the Louie Louie. However, only one person submitted a bid, for $4,250, which was far short of the $30,000 minimum. The book price for the SeaRay is $50,000.

Patton said a broker has come forward offering to help sell the boat. He needs to talk with port commissioners first.
