A long-running dispute between two Oak Harbor men turned violent once again.

Brian Jackson, 28, is accused of stabbing Charles  Bruce Daugherty, 44, in the arm on the night of Jan. 11.

Previously, Daugherty allegedly hit Jackson with a baseball bat in a parking lot and broke his arm; before that, Jackson stabbed Daugherty in the chest and collapsed his lung, according to court documents.

In the most recent case, prosecutors charged Jackson in Island County Superior Court Jan. 27 with assault in the second degree. If convicted, he could face up to 14 months in prison under the standard sentencing range.

Jackson called 911 on Jan. 11 to report that Daugherty was following him as he was walking on Crosby Avenue; there is a protection order barring Daugherty from having contact with Jackson, according to the police report.

Jackson came up behind him and stabbed him in the arm while Daugherty was talking to dispatchers, the report alleges. Jackson got onto a bicycle and rode away.

Daugherty was transported to the hospital, where a doctor stitched his wound.

Court documents indicate that Daugherty was previously charged in 2014 with second-degree assault for allegedly hitting Jackson with a metal baseball bat in the former Safeway parking lot.

Daugherty claimed he was defending himself because Jackson pulled a knife on him.

Jackson denied having a knife. He said the police had confiscated his two knives and a machete when he was arrested for assaulting a woman, the report states.

Several months before that, Jackson stabbed Daugherty in the chest. Jackson was arrested but the case was later dismissed because investigators were unable to prove the stabbing was not in self defense, court documents state.
