King’s broke a tie with Coupeville for fourth place in the Cascade Conference soccer standings by defeating the visiting Wolves 5-1 Monday, April 14.

The win also gave the Knights an edge in the race to qualify for the district tournament. Two of the three 1A schools in the league move on to the post season. South Whidbey is currently 5-2 (7-2), King’s 4-3 (5-4) and Coupeville 3-4 (4-4) at the halfway point of the conference schedule.

The Knights received a hat trick from Ryan Fransen on the way to the win over the Wolves.

“The strong, physical play wore us down,” said coach Kyle Nelson.

Abraham Leyva Elenes scored Coupeville’s goal on a penalty kick after a foul in the penalty box.

The match was the first of four consecutive away games for Coupeville. Next, the Wolves head to Cedarcrest (4-2, 5-3) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, and then it is off to rival South Whidbey at 6 p.m. Friday, April 18.

Coupeville lost to Cedarcrest 2-1 and defeated the Falcons by the same score the first time through the conference schedule.
