This is in regards to Ms. Nicholai’s letter (News-Times, July 9). You know, I have lived in Oak Harbor and currently Coupeville (right under the flight pattern at OLF), since I was in third grade and I am 43 now. My father was in the Navy, and I grew up with the understanding that in order to live as a free nation, we must sacrifice a little and believe in a lot more. I have firmly stood proud and tall for my nation and served in the Army myself.

I found myself not only becoming very angered at Ms. Nicholai’s words as her letter went on and on, but I also started feeling very personally attacked! She insulted my country, she insulted my president, she insulted my military, she insulted my state, she insulted my city and she insulted my life!

I wondered what kind of person could actually think those thoughts and truly believe them. What kind of person could be so narrow-minded and still breathe good air? I wondered why and how could someone attack all that has made her current life possible? I do not know. You would almost think that she was unhappy that she is not getting a good night’s sleep. I also told myself that she was writing these words because she lives in the United States of America, and here, she has the right to free speech, no matter how twisted they may be.

However, the real reason I am writing is to give Ms. Nicholai a little bit of advice. Move! Move far away from here, my home! Move far away from my state! Move far away from my country!

Move, perhaps to a country that does not fight for the right to be free. Move, perhaps, to a country that does not exercise their military personnel so they are fit and ready to defend and protect what is theirs. Move there — wherever that is! In addition, try to be happy there. Oh and please, try and sleep soundly, if you can.
