Island County’s elected officials’ pay rises 4 percent

Salaries for nine elected officials increased by four percent on Sept. 1 as the result of a resolution passed last year, said Melanie Bacon, director of Island County Human Resources.

Salaries for nine elected officials increased by four percent on Sept. 1 as the result of a resolution passed last year, said Melanie Bacon, director of Island County Human Resources.

That resolution tied the salaries of the county’s elected officials to the salary of a Superior Court judge.

Island County Commissioner Rick Hannold’s salary increased to $83,277. Neither of the other two commissioners’ salaries could be increased as they voted on the resolution and are not allowed to vote themselves salary increases, Bacon said.

Hannold was not in office when that vote was taken.

The salaries of the auditor, assessor, clerk, coroner and treasurer each increased to $74,951.

The sheriff’s salary grew to $91,603, and the portion of the salary paid by the county to the prosecutor increased to $56,201.

All the new salaries represent increases of four percent.

The raises were triggered by the increase Sept. 1 of a Superior Court judge’s salary to $162,618, an increase of four percent.
