A late model, sky blue Ford pickup truck-rear ended an Island Transit bus while on route 10 near the Wallenford Apartment complex on Seventh Street in Oak Harbor, Thursday shortly after 8 a.m.

Oak Harbor Fire Department Battalion Chief Ray Merrill said approximately 18 passengers were on the bus at the time of the accident. The passengers, bus driver and truck driver escaped the incident unharmed, although the truck is likely totaled, he said.

“It’s a case of two vehicles trying to occupy the same space at the same time,” Merrill said.

The bus driver, whose name tag identified her as “Karen B.,” declined to comment on the crash.

Merrill said the two-vehicle convergence was likely caused by inattention.
