Audrey Howard blasted a home run in the seventh inning, but that was about the only highlight in Oak Harbor’s 9-5 softball loss at Marysville Getchell Tuesday, May 10.

The win was the first for the Chargers (1-9, 3-17) in conference play and came in the regular-season finale for both schools.

Oak Harbor (3-7, 5-15) finished fourth in the Wesco North and goes into the eight-team district tournament as the eighth seed.

The Wildcats open district play against top-seeded Meadowdale (17-3) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Everett’s Phil Johnson Ballfields. Oak Harbor upset the Mavericks 11-2 last month.

Two rounds will be contested the first day, and the survivors of the double-elimination tournament will continue play on Thursday, May 19. The top three teams advance to the state tournament.

Marysville Getchell led 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, then scored five runs to pull away.

The Chargers were aided in the game by six Oak Harbor errors which resulted in seven unearned runs.

Oak Harbor scored its first run in the third inning. Alexa Findley was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on Tricia Sarns’ single.

Down 9-1 going into the seventh, the Wildcats scored four runs to put a little heat on the Chargers.

Again Findley was hit by a pitch, Kelly Findley walked and Cierra LeGendre was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sarns grounded into a fielder’s choice to plate Alexa Findley, then Howard followed with her three-run home run.

The Wildcats put two more runners on but couldn’t catch MG.

In all, Oak Harbor left 10 runners stranded.

Howard had a single and home run, and Lyndsay Duchnowski rapped a single and double. Alexa Findley, Sarns, Sam Payne and Shea Davis all singled.
